About the competition

Join us for the 21st annual IEEE Ottawa Robotics Competition, Sunday May 26 at All Saints High School from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Our goal is to ignite a passion for engineering in elementary and high school students. Introduced in 2016, the Arduino category is aimed at participants who are eager for a deeper dive into mechanical, electrical, and software design. (Despite its name, this category is no longer restricted to the Arduino platform.)

The challenges

Dancing Robot

Who needs human moves when you've got robotic grooves? The Dancing Robot challenge combines the technical skills of engineering with the creative process of the arts. Your team is tasked with building an autonomous robot that can perform an entertaining dance routine. The music selection is up to you. This year's theme is science-fiction. Full details.

Grid Runner 2424

[Read in Morgan Freeman's voice, with dramatic background music.]

In the distant future, a rogue AI has taken control of the galaxy and is determined to eradicate all forms of life. Amidst this chaos, a group of rebels have established the Sanctuary—the only remaining refuge for civilization. The rebels know the locations of several survivor groups but lack the resources to reach out to them.

This is where your team comes in! You are tasked with engineering an autonomous rover that will scout sectors of the galaxy, make contact with the survivors, and lead them back to the Sanctuary. Full details.
